After years of shooting photos with two versions of Sony Mavicas, I splurged before my last trip to Vietnam (March, 2005) and purchased a Nikon D70 SLR camera with a tax refund.
Since that time, I've shot mainly in auto mode, since: 1. The photos it produced were relatively fine, and 2. every time I attempted to learn what the camera was capable of, I'd back off when I'd get too frustrated. Thus, the camera remained much more intelligent than the photographer.
I've started to shoot with a Nikon D200 at work and since those photos are used for professional reasons, I asked to take a digital photography class and get a handle on it once and for all. Even with just a week under my camera strap I can see a difference, and am very excited about the possibilities now that I know how things work.
We started on July 5, 2011 and this site was built as a place to house assignments and eventually, a portfolio. I invite you to view my progress and welcome your comments...provided they don't make me cry, of course. :)
